Priority Objectives

By survey, members of the Indiana Cancer Consortium establish five objectives from the Indiana Cancer Control Plan, 2010-2014 that are considered highest priority. Surveys are distributed each Spring and new priority objective results are announced in late June and early July. The July 2011 through June 2012 priority objectives are as follows:

  • Tobacco Cessation - By 2014, increase the percentage of Indiana residents who work in a smokefree workplace from 9 percent to 100 percent through the passage of a comprehensive smokefree air law as measured by Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Policy Tracking.
  • Tobacco Prevention – By 2014, increase the percentage of school districts with a 100 percent tobacco free campus policy from 60 percent to 85 percent as measured by Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Policy Tracking.
  • Early Detection – By 2014, increase the percentage of women aged 40 and older who receive annual breast cancer screening from 62 percent to 67 percent as measured by the Indiana Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.
  • Primary Prevention (Weight Management) – By 2014, decrease the percentage of high school students in Indiana who are obese from 14 percent to 13 percent as measured by the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance – United States.
  • Primary Prevention (Healthy Sexual Behavior) – By 2014, increase the percentage of condom usage among sexually active high school students from 57 percent to 62 percent as measured by the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance – United States.
